Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) examination and testing
Examination and testing is undertaken in accordance with the requirements of HSE Guidance Note HSG54 Maintenance, examination and testing of local exhaust ventilation 1998, and includes:
- Measurement of enclosure and hood face velocities, using a calibrated anemometer equipped with a suitable vane probe; multiple velocity readings will be taken on large systems, in accordance with requirements of HSG54; smoke tube test.
- Measurement of duct static velocity pressures on the LEV system using a calibrated pitot-static tube/manometer combination, in each branch of the system (where required);
- Measurement of duct diameters; examination of LEV systems for visible damage.
- Inspection of ducting for physical damage, leakage and blockages.
- Inspection of maintenance programmes and records.
