Local Exhaust Ventilation
Regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 requires the employer to maintain, examine and test local exhaust ventilation at least every 14 months.
Environmental Compliance Ltd can thoroughly examine and test local exhaust ventilation in accordance with HSG258 Controlling airborne contaminants at work - A guide to local exhaust ventilation. This can include the following:
- measurement of enclosure and hood face velocities (multiple readings on large systems) using an anemometer;
- measurement of duct static pressure and velocity, in each branch of the system using a pitot tube and manometer;
- measurement of differential pressure across the filter;
- measurement of duct diameters to calculate volumetric flow rates;
- examination of the condition of the LEV systems;
- comparisons with previous performance or commissioning data.
